You are required to determine the most suitable thermometer that can be used for James to determine the temperature of the water in three different cups.

- The thickness of glass bulb
- The bore of capillary tube
- Shape of glass stem
- Liquid in thermometer used

Explain the suitability of the aspects.
Justify your choice.

Answer:
*Please write your answer in full sentences or in table form.
- Glass bulb should be thin so that heat can be transferred faster and thermal equilibrium can be reached faster.
- The bore of capillary tube should be bore so that the thermometer is more sensitive because the increase in length of the liquid in thermometer thread is greater when the bore is narrower.
- The shape of the glass stem should be round. It acts as a magnifying glass so that the liquid in thermometer level can be seen more clearly.
- Mercury is more suitable to act as the liquid in thermometer as compared to water because it will not stick to the wall of the capillary tube and it is opaque.
- The most suitable thermometer : Thermometer C
